From In-person to Online in less than 90 days

Objective

To pivot the tech and designs of GigZoo and launch Thrillz as a new product as quickly as possible, adapting the service to offer personalised video messages and virtual experiences in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Context

I had been working with Anjan (Founder) and the small team at GigZoo for around a month when the pandemic and lockdowns hit in March 2020. Initially, we were two weeks away from launching GigZoo, a platform where users could book in-person entertainment for corporate events, bar/nightclub gigs, or personal performances. With the world turned upside down, it was no longer viable to launch as intended. We conducted extensive in-person research with both talent and prospective customers under the GigZoo guise, which helped shape the initial product. The pivot was driven by desk and user research into the success in the US of Cameo, where we identified similar tech and UX opportunities to implement.

Results

- Successfully pivoted from GigZoo to Thrillz, launching a user-friendly platform that connects fans with their favourite artists and celebrities through personalised video messages and virtual experiences.

Creative Process

Research and Analysis

During this phase, we engaged with GigZoo/Thrillz stakeholders, including founder Anjan Luthra, to understand the new business goals and requirements for the pivot. Our market research focused on platforms like Cameo, identifying key features and opportunities. We conducted surveys and interviews with talent and prospective customers to gather insights on their needs and expectations for virtual experiences.

Concept Development

We mapped out detailed user journeys for both fans and artists, identifying key touchpoints and opportunities for engagement. We created wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualise the user interface and user experience. Usability testing was conducted to gather feedback and refine the design. The high-fidelity designs aligned with Thrillz’s brand guidelines, ensuring a visually appealing and intuitive user interface.

Execution and Optimisation

During this phase, I delivered responsive wireframes and UI designs for the GigZoo product and marketing site, which were then adapted and extended to encompass the pivot to Thrillz. We collaborated with the development team using agile methodologies to ensure iterative progress and timely delivery of features. Key integrations included various APIs for secure transactions, video hosting, and real-time notifications. Performance optimisation was a focus, ensuring fast load times and a smooth user experience.

Launch and Enhancement

We conducted a beta testing phase with a select group of users to gather feedback and identify any issues before the full launch. A comprehensive launch strategy was developed, including marketing and PR efforts to maximise reach and engagement. Post-launch, we continuously monitored user feedback and platform analytics to identify areas for improvement and rolled out updates and new features based on user needs and market trends.
